I'm in Heaven

Tomorrow is a day that I have been looking forward to for almost ten months. No it is not the impending birth of an expected child. It is the rebirth of what is the equivalent of summer TV crack for me. Big Brother! I have to admit I have been addicted to a number of TV shows in my time including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Beverly Hills 90210, both of which I have seen every episode of. But amongst the reality TV genre, Big Brother is the only show I have watched every episode in every season. When it comes to reality TV, I have specific ideas of what I want to see to make to watch it. If it is talent based show, there has to be some real talent there, and a little less cheese (Rockstar vs. So You Think You Can Dance). If it is day in the life the cheese factor should also be low (Miami Ink vs. Inked). My favourite style of the genre however is the last man standing mini society style shows like Big Brother, Survivor, and I have to admit I even watched a season of Paradise Hotel. The beauty of this style of reality programming is watching what happens when human nature takes over. And that is why I love Big Brother so much. This has got to be one of the reality shows that is a must watch for psychologists and psychological researchers everywhere. Watch what happens when you put a bunch of different personality types, along with a few key alpha males and females in confined conditions, with very limited contact to the outside. And this year is even better, since it is All Stars and the general public has had a chance to vote on their favourite past Big Brother players. For someone like me, it's like setting up my own experiment knowing exactly what kind of mix I am putting together. There are a number of different personalities that I have in the past wondered "I wonder what would happen if they had (Person A from Season Two) in a house with (Person B from Season Five). Now I get to watch that very thing happen. I have voted like a fiend over the past two weeks as I have a few very specific favourites that I would like to see in the house, in hopes that they will stir up a lot of sh**t. I just can't wait! Let the games begin!

Hip Hoppin

First off might I extend a Happy Fourth of July to our neighbors to the south!! Hope you've had a great holiday.

For those of us north of the 49th, especially those in Vancouver it had to be one of the best Canada Day long weekends. It was hot, sunny and absolutely fabulous.

Went to a BBQ at the biscotti's in law on Sunday. Well actually it wasn't a BBQ. It was us eating a turkey buffet - with the prerequisite pasta dish - outside. Par for the course. We must be the only family that doesn't do turkey for Christmas, and usually carves the Christmas Lasagne. Get my side of the family involved and it usually involves some form of fried rice and turkey stir fry! Really. I shit you not!

While enjoying my lactose laden birdie on a plate I got into a discussion with my brother-in-law about the rebirth of the VW Rabbit. We seem to have one major difference of opinion. He thinks it is a cool car....I think it is a chick car. Yes it is fuel efficient and cute, but this is a car that is really only made for chicks and pizza delivery boys. He doesn't seem to agree with me and then decided to take a shot at the fact that our family car is a Honda - four door SE in black, not a chick car!!! I then had to point out to him that he has owned no less than five Hondas over the last ten years and most of them were less manly than our current vehicle. Some days I am really happy that my mom and dad decided to stop with me. I just don't understand siblings some times. Its not like he's going to go out and buy a Rabbit. His taste in cars has been leaning to the larger, not the smaller over the years. But apparently he found a need to defend the Rabbit against my baseless (do a survey of owners and I guarantee that at least 75% of them are either chicks, pizza delivery boys or porn producers that produced "The Pizza Boy came knocking" type porns) attack.

On another note, congrats to Team Italy for taking out Germany in the World Cup today!!! I am excited to see the outcome of tomorrows game so I know whether it will be France or Portugal that Italy takes for the ride of their lives! Viva Italia!!!!

It's a bird, it's a plane...

So my biscotti man and I caught a showing of Superman Returns last night and I have to say I haven't been this giddy about a movie since I saw Return of the Jedi with my dad, way back when. When that music came on (thank you Brian Singer for keeping the feel of the old Superman movies), I was vibrating with excitement.

For a movie that so easily could have disappointed a few generations of fans who remeber every nuance and detail of the Christopher Reeves versions, this movie does not disappoint. Brandon Routh has got to be the defenition of divine casting. He stayed so true to the original concept of Superman that Reeves had built, while inserting his own personality into the character. Doesn't hurt that his is yummy as all get out.

Both biscotti man and I agreed that everything about this movie was great, including the subtle changes to Lois & Lex brought on by Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey. Now we just have to decide if we are going to be able to wait until next weekend to go see it again. And I won't give it away, but the surprise in the movie was THE BEST!!!
